“We will not allow municipalities to be used as a political manoeuvre”

The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman said that the government was using the political manoeuvre to decrease the number of municipalities and added that their intentions were not for reforms.
Erhürman evaluated the latest developments of the ‘Local Administrations Reform’ at a press conference of the Parliamentary Assembly.
Erhürman said that criteria for local administrations were created following joint initiatives after the establishment of the Ad-Hoc committee at the Parliamentary Assembly. Erhürman said that they were working for the right ground to be set and for accurate reforms to be made but that this did not yield any results.

“ Using municipalities as a political instrument is a big issue”

Erhürman added that without their consultation, the issue was withdrawn by the National Unity Party members (UBP) who have a majority right in the administrative decision-making mechanisms of the Public and Health Committee.
‘Using municipalities as a political instrument is a big issue”he said, adding that by using the political manoeuvre ‘municipality is mine’, ‘that municipality is my partners’ will cause deforms rather than reforms and is heading towards new chaos, we will not allow this to happen, CTP leader Erhürman said.
Pointing out that the CTP was carrying out efforts for reforms to turn the process into an opportunity, Erhürman said that proposals were put forward for decentralization, strengthening of local administrations, ensuring financial and administrative autonomy and reorganizing financial auditing.
