Winter will be rainy and harsh according to the Director of Meteorology Department Buran

According to meteorological forecasts, this winter in Cyprus will be rainy and harsh. Precipitation is expected to e around seasonal average from December to April.

The seasonal normal per square metre in December is 86 kilograms, while that in January is 75; around 58 kilogrammes in February and 35 kilogrammes in March.

Raif İlker Buran, Director of the Meteorology Department, evaluated the seasonal forecasts for autumn and winter to the Turkish News Agency Cyprus (TAK) and stated, “I think it will be a fruitful year for producers and a troublesome year for local authorities.”

Buran stated that the active state of La Nina in the Central Pacific, which causes rainy and harsh winters, will continue until February, and especially in Europe and the Mediterranean basin, where Cyprus is located, winter will be rainy and hard.

Buran also stated that last year, unstable precipitation, unexpected cold in March, and northerly winds that lowered humidity affected production.

-The highest rainfall is in Doğancı.

The Meteorology Department announced the precipitation amounts for the last 24 hours from 08.00 yesterday morning to 08.00 this morning.

Accordingly, 8 kilogrammes of precipitation per square metre were recorded in Doğancı, while Selvili and Kozanköy received 7, Bostancı received 6, Alsancak, Gemikonağı and Lefke received 5, Kalkanlı received 4, Taşpınar received 3, Boğaz, Karaoğlanoğlu, Koruçam and Türkeli received 2 kilogrammes of precipitation.
