The United Nations Peacekeeping Forces issued a statement regarding the crossing to the Taksim pitch in Lefkoşa.
UNFICYP Twitter statement:
“No, you are mistaken. Access to the Taksim pitch is ALLOWED through the crossing points only, as in the past. We are committed 2 working with both sides to facilitate civilian access to the buffer zone ensuring that violations are prevented and the status of the buffer zone is protected,”
-The concrete barriers have been replaced by barbed wire
Meanwhile, UNFICYP has taken down the barriers placed on the steps that allow entry to the Çetinkaya Taksim pitch from North Cyprus and have replaced them with barbed wire.
