Theft at the St. Barnabas Monastery

An icon on display at the St. Barnabas Monastery (Icon and Archaeology Museum) in Yeniboğaziçi, one of the most important historical sites in Cyprus, was stolen on 7th January.
While police arrested one person in connection with the incident, two more icons were found in the suspect’s home.
According to a police statement, a 52-year-old male, who was being investigated for the incident, was arrested in Girne.
Following a police search at his residence, two more icons were found and taken as evidence in addition to the icon stolen from the St. Barnabas Icon Museum.
A police investigation into the theft of historical artefacts continues.
