Parliament convenes today

The Republic’s Assembly will be convening today (06.06.2022).
A vote will be held in parliament regarding the resignation of the leader of the Peoples Party (HP), Lefkoşa MP Kudret Özersay from parliament.
An absolute majority of MP’s attending the session is required for Özersay’s resignation to be approved.
Responding to TAK news agency questions, political party representatives in parliament shared their views of HP leader Kudret Özersay decision.
National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said that parliament will convene at 9 am today and that the final decision of Özersay’s resignation from parliament will be determined.
Also responding to TAK questions, Democrat Party Leader, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that Özersay’s resignation will be discussed and a decision will be taken on the issue during the parliamentary group meeting.
The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) General Secretary, Erdoğan Sorakın said that he respects Özersay’s decision to resign adding that he will approve it.
The Rebirth Party Leader (YDP), Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı also announced that he will approve Özersay’s decision in parliament. Arıklı said that the issue was discussed at an authorized level while he was in Türkiye adding that it was a unilateral decision by Özersay and that it should be respected.
