UN Under-Secretary-General DiCarlo to visit Cyprus!

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo is planning to visit the island next week. Ahead of DiCarlo’s visit, the Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will receive the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus, UN Peacekeeping Mission Chief Colin Stewart tomorrow (10.03.2023).

According to a statement released from the Presidency, the meeting between Tatar and Stewart, scheduled at 3 pm on Friday will entail discussions ahead of the visit to the island next week by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

The statement reports that Tatar’s meeting with DiCarlo is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 at 12 midday.

The statement is as follows:

During the meeting with DiCarlo, Tatar will convey his determined policy based on two sides and three guarantor states and that he was against the involvement of third parties, including the EU, adding that the goodwill mission carried out by the UN Secretary-General will only further complicate the process.

Referring to the Greek Cypriot leader’s planned visit to Brussels on 23 March, Tatar said that within the scope of the meeting, it is understood that the GC leader proposed to meet with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during the visit.

If such a meeting is realized, under the established practice and reciprocal principle, as held in June 2021, details of a meeting with our leadership will also be taken up.
