Turkish and Greek Cypriot political parties met at buffer zone

Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties participating in the bi-communal dialogue activities organized by the Slovakian Embassy held their routine monthly meeting today.

Political party representatives held the meeting at the Ledra Palace Hotel in the buffer zone hosted and with the recommendation of the United Cyprus Party, titled “The Cyprus problem can only be solved with a federal solution and how can a common struggle be waged for a united Cyprus”

A memorandum agreed upon by the parties was read by the Slovak Ambassador Martin Bezak at the end of the meeting.

In a joint statement, it was noted that the leaders and representatives of the political parties agreed that the negotiations should start as soon as possible and that the Cyprus problem can only be resolved within the scope of United Federal Cyprus under the relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions.

Agreement was also reached among the representatives that the Karpaz Peninsula should not be used for military purposes, but only for environmental and cultural activities, as is in all sensitive natural areas of Cyprus.

The next meeting to be hosted by the Cyprus Greens Party will be held on January 25, 2023, it was stated.

The meeting was attended by the United Cyprus Party (BKP), the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), the Cyprus Socialist Party (KSP), the Social Democratic Party (TDP), the New Cyprus Party (YKP) from the North of Cyprus and the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL), the Cyprus Greens Party, the Democratic Front Party (DEPA), the Movement for Social Democracy (EDEK), (EPALIXI) and the United Democrats (EDI) from the main opposition of South of Cyprus.
