Taksim pitch back in service for our youth

The Çetinkaya Sports Club Taksim pitch is back in service for the youth.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Türkiye Minister for Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu made statements on the Taksim football pitch, which was renovated with the support of the Republic of Türkiye.

Üstel and Kasapoğlu were accompanied by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Metin Feyzioğlu and other officials.

Expressing that the first stage of the Çetinkaya Sports Club Taksim pitch was reorganized and put into service for the youth, Kasapoğlu said that the field, which was previously used for javelin competitions during the Ottoman period, assumed an important mission for the Turkish Cypriot people for years.

Explaining that the field remained in the buffer zone following the peace operation and that there were some problems, Kasapoğlu noted that following the football field, arrangements will be made to serve tennis, basketball and other sports and wished it to be beneficial.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel criticised the ill-stance of the Greek Cypriot Administration regarding the pitch stating that arrangements have been carried out and that it will be used for training purposes too.

Pointing out that sports activities have been held at the pitch since the Ottoman period, Üstel criticized the fact that the Turkish Cypriot youth have been subjected to embargoes.
