Rise in foreign tourists at North Cyprus hotels

Tourism, which is among the sectors that suffered the most from the coronavirus pandemic, is on the rise this year.
The number of passengers arriving in North Cyprus in the first six months this year and the number of people staying in hotels increased compared to the same period last year.

Tourism Planning Department announced the tourism statistics for the first six months of this year.

According to the data on the website of the Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment; In the January-June 2022 period, the rate of accommodation in touristic facilities in the country increased by 1556 percent on the basis of foreign tourists and 1401 percent in overnight stays compared to the previous year.

In the January-June period, the average occupancy rate of touristic facilities in the country rose to 33.2 percent. In the same period of 2021, this figure was 10.3 percent.

Tourism and Planning Department data shows that the total number of Turkish citizens staying in touristic facilities in the first half of 2022 and the number of other foreign nationals is 377 thousand 336 people.

This number was recorded as 22 thousand 778 last year.
According to the data of the Ministry, the number of Turkish citizens staying in hotels in a 6-month period increased by 1 thousand 480 percent compared to the same period of 2021 and was 282 thousand 499.

The figures of 94 thousand 837 other foreign nationals staying in hotels in the first half of 2022 points to an increase of 1 thousand 833 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the January-June period of 2022, there was an increase in the number of overnight stays.

In this period, the number of overnight stays on the basis of foreign tourists was 1 million 335 thousand 322, an increase of 1,401 percent compared to the previous year.

The number of arriving passengers has also increased.

While the number of passengers arriving in the TRNC by air and sea in the January-June period of 2021 was 63 thousand 106, excluding North Cyprus nationals, this figure increased by 781.4 percent in the January-June period of this year, reaching 556 thousand 224.

An increase of 1063.2 percent in Turkish nationals and 374.4 percent in other foreign nationals was recorded.
