Police Warning: Beware of fake earthquake donation sites!

North Cyprus Police General Directorate issued a written statement warning of fake earthquake donation sites.

The statement is as follows:

Necessary initiatives have been launched by the TRNC Prime Ministry in order to collect financial aid in addition to various donation campaigns that have been previously launched due to the earthquake disaster in Türkiye.

It has been reported that fake donation sites have been created by some individuals ready to scam people wanting to help following the earthquake disaster.

Although the fake sites in question do not have any connection with the TR Ministry of Interior, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), it has been determined that individuals are getting hold of credit/debit card and identity details by imitating the “AFAD Official Website” and by pretending to help earthquake victims following the quake disaster.

The General Directorate of Police has taken necessary steps within the scope of the “Cyber Crimes Law” 32/2020 to prevent access to the fake sites that have been detected so far.

In order to prevent victimization those wanting to provide financial help due to the earthquake disaster, are kindly suggested to donate to the account created by C.T. Cooperative Central Bank (KoopBank), under the name of “TRNC Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Account” (Account No: 1301824) (UBAN CT52 1200 0010 0000 0000 0130 1824)
