According to the information received from the Police, counterfeit money was put into circulation in Lefkoşa and Girne.
A total of 6 counterfeit 100 USD notes (amounting to USD 600), 6 counterfeit 50 USD notes (amounting to USD 300), totaling an amount of USD 900, 1 counterfeit 50 Euro and 1 counterfeit 20 Euro (amounting to 70 Euro) have been circulated by a customer at a casino in Girne at around 11 pm yesterday.
The serial numbers of the fake USD and Euro bank notes are as follows
KB 64738025G, MB 66022384F, KB 64736676G, KB 64736773G, KB 30431289G, KB 64736683G, MB 26729479A, MB 62227805A, MB 26727741A, MB 26729478A, MB 76447155A, MD 69324783B, UD 03117944506, WA0098228863.
Four people believed to have connections to the incident and the person in question were arrested. The investigation continues.
One person was arrested following the further investigation regarding the circulation of 7 counterfeit 50 USD notes (amounting to USD 350), at a business place in Lefkoşa between 3rd-4th December.
Police issued a warning that the fake USA 50 and 100 dollars, 20 and 50 Euro notes may have been circulated beforehand and therefore issued a call on banks, foreign exchange bureaus, finance companies, markets, and citizens to be extra cautious and look out for the serial numbers when making purchases or sales. The police also called on the public to report anyone that they believe to be suspicious.
