Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay made evaluations to the Anadolu Agency regarding the adopted European Parliament’s (EP) 2021 report on Türkiye. Oktay said that the biased and unrealistic assessment of the EP with its shallow and visionless statements on the Cyprus issue was proof that it was acting as a spokesperson of the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA). Oktay said that if the European Union (EU) and the European Parliament (EP) want to contribute towards a solution to the Cyprus issue, it should refrain from ignoring the Turkish Cypriot people, register the sovereign equality and equal international status of Turkish Cypriots and fulfil the promises made to them during the 2004 referendum.
Stating that there are two separate peoples and states in Cyprus, Turkish Vice President Oktay reminded that a federation model had been rejected by the Greek Cypriot administration for almost 50 years due to their delaying tactics on a federation model in 2004 and 2017. “Another 50 years will not be wasted on negotiations. The issue is now closed”, Oktay said.
