The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the rejection of the candidacy of one of the residents of Kormacit, Maronite origin Maria Skoullou, and noted that “each state has the authority to make decisions on the basis of its own administrative authority and sovereign rights.

The ministry statement said:

“Each state has the authority to make decisions on the basis of its own administrative authority and sovereign rights. In the current conditions of our country, it is not accepted that people who do not have the right to exercise all the rights of citizenship, alone or together with their close relatives, act against our sovereignty or our current state policy, to take place in our local governments.

Skoullou, who made a statement following the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, shared her criminal record document and asked the Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, “Am I a security threat?”

Maria Skoullou announced that her candidacy for mukhtar was rejected with the following words:

“My esteemed villagers, Maronites of our Kormakitis.

As you know, I was not found suitable to be a candidate for the Presidency of Kormakitis Local Government in the elections to be held on the 25th December 2022.

I would like to thank everyone who stood by me from the day I submitted my candidacy to the day I was rejected, but most of all, to everyone who showed me sympathy and love in various ways after my candidacy was rejected.

I would also like to thank many customers, acquaintances and friends for the support and trust they have shown, and will continue to show me.

Finally, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope 2023 will bring everyone health, joy and prosperity.
