“I informed Ferreira of the great injustices towards Turkish Cypriots”

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said that during his meeting with the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira, he informed her that the best opportunity for making the most of the renewable energy resources in Cyprus was to be linked to the European electricity grid via Türkiye.
Tatar who spoke to the Cyprus Turkish News Agency (TAK) and Bayrak Radio, Television Corporation (BRTK) following his one and a-half-hour meeting with the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira said that he informed her of the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) he proposed to the Greek Cypriot Side and that the Turkish Cypriot side was also a part of Cyprus and was equally entitled to the hydrocarbon wealth in Cyprus.
Tatar pointed to the importance of the support that can be given by Türkiye for the connection of electricity to the European electricity grid.
The Turkish Cypriot leader Tatar pointed to the possibility of being linked to the European Union electricity grid via a cable between Türkiye and Cyprus. This will be to the advantage of both the north and the south of Cyprus and will greatly pave the way for solving the electricity problem.
Referring to the EU support of 1 billion Euros, Tatar said that if they succeed in the interconnectivity with Europe then this will help expand the production of solar electricity on the island.
Noting that only 25 per cent of the electricity produced in the current closed system can be obtained from renewable sources, Tatar stated that connecting to the EU electricity grid with the support of Türkiye will pave the way for the use of solar energy.
Tatar noted that he conveyed all these issues to the European Commission Elisa Ferreira and that she vowed that the EU would examine all the details put forward.
