Final stretch of Güzelyurt-Lefke road to be opened July 20

The final 7.25km stretch of the dual carriage way between Güzelyurt and Lefke will be opened to traffic this Wednesday, July 20, it was announced on Sunday.

The first 10km stretch of the 17.25km road had been opened to traffic in 2018 while the remaining section had been halted due to ongoing legal wrangling between landowners and the state.

Workers have been working around the clock to finish the road in time for the 20th July military operation events.

Road lines are being drawn and signs being put up along the final section of the road which has been pending completion for the past four years after several landowners filed injunctions against a state order for the acquisition of their land.

The asphalting of the road had been completed last week.

Speaking to BRT, the Mayor of Lefke said that the dual carriage way, once opened, will make access to the town even easier.

Currently the dual carriage way ends at the Doğanköy roundabout and drivers are forced to turn into a single lane road to drive to Lefke.
