Electricity customers now have the chance to switch to multi-tariff system

Electricity customers may now apply to switch to a multi-tariff billing system, which could provide cheaper power for the public.

The multi-tariff electricity charging system, which was re-introduced under a new Cabinet decision and published yesterday in the Official Gazette, is now in force.

“Switching to the multi-tariffs could result in cheaper electricity for the public,” said Prime Minister Ünal Üstel early this week when he first announced the new Cabinet decision.

Customers on the residential, commercial, industrial, tourism, university, and water pump tariffs may apply to switch to the new multi-tariff by Monday. Those customers wishing to opt in may apply at the regional Kıb-Tek offices.

Customers may benefit from various tariffs under the multi-tariff system. Accordingly, for the “winter period”, which covers usage from 16 October to 15 May, “normal” time (from 7am to 5pm) rates will be 3.3285TL per Kwh; peak time (from 5pm to 10pm) rates will be 4.646TL per Kwh; and off-peak time (from 10pm to 7am) rates will be 2.1941TL per Kwh.

Discounted rates for the “winter period” will be applied seven days a week from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

The implementation of the multi-tariff system will start by November 1.
