Archbishop Chrysostomos II to be buried on Saturday

Archbishop Chrysostomos II, the leader of Cyprus’ Greek Orthodox Christian Church who died today (07.11.2022) at the age of 81 will be buried on Saturday, it has been announced.
According to the Greek Cypriot radio and other Greek Cypriot media outlets, the Greek Cypriot Orthodox Holy Synod, the church’s highest decision-making body convened at an extraordinary meeting and announced that Archbishop Chrysostomos II will be buried on Saturday, November 12th at noon.
Bishop Giorgios of Paphos, who under church rule is the caretaker until a new election, said that the archbishop will be buried within the grounds of the Apostolos Varnavas Cathedral.
The corpse of Archbishop Chrysostomos II will be laid at the Apostolos Varnavas Cathedral for those who want to pay their last respects from Thursday until his burial on Saturday.
Chrysostomos II will be laid to eternal rest at a special place on the cathedral grounds following the religious ceremony, it has been announced.
Members of the Holy Synod and Greek Cypriot Fener Patriarch Bartholomew will also attend the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and GC Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides have announced a change to their official plans to attend the funeral service to be held for Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
Furthermore, candidates that will be competing in the February 2023 presidential elections will be postponing their election campaigns until the burial of the archbishop has been completed, it has been announced.
Patriarch Bartholomew will be heading for South Cyprus to attend Chrysostomos II’s funeral service.
And the deputy of the TC Foreign Affairs Mehmet Emin Yeltekin issued a message of condolence for the passing of the leader of Cyprus’ Greek Orthodox Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
Yeltekin said that he was saddened to hear of the death of Chrysostomos II.
