Transport Minister Arıklı “Kıbrıs Havayolları will realize 75 flights a week”

The Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, who announced that the first flight of the new airline Kıbrıs Havayolları (FLY KHY) will begin on April 16th, said that some local tour operators have reached an agreement with the Freebird Airlines Company in Türkiye.
Arıklı who spoke to the Cyprus Turkish Agency (TAK) explained that the launch of the airline will be held on March 13th and aims to commence its first scheduled flight on April 16th via the new Ercan terminal airport. He said that the company will begin with 75 flights a week in total to three destinations in Türkiye, that being Ankara, Istanbul and İzmir and that the airline’s headquarters will be in Lefkoşa.
Stating that the Kıbrıs Havayolları Company was a private company established with local tour operators in agreement with Freebird Airlines in Türkiye, Arıklı said that the state did not have any shares in the company. The more companies we have, the more prices will fall, he said.
“We have given the necessary permits; they have fulfilled all the requirements for scheduled flights”, Arıklı said adding that (FLY KHY) will exercise the rights of Freebird Airlines, a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Another new airline company for flights to Antalya in May is also on the agenda, Arıklı said.
