Tourism Minister Ataoğlu “The project will be put into service at the beginning of June”

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu held on-the-spot inspections at the Girne Antique Harbour on Monday.
According to a statement by the Ministry, Ataoğlu said that they have been working with associates for a long time on the antique port of Girne and that they have implemented a project by taking into consideration the opinions of all segments.
Expressing that this project, which has been meticulously planned with the participation of the Girne Municipality, tradesmen, owners, yachtsmen, fishermen and many more, will be put into service at the beginning of June,
Ataoğlu stated that a port, which everyone dreams of, will be gained for the tourism sector.


“Historical stone ground will be preserved”
Explaining that the teams of the Department of Antiquities of the Deputy Prime Ministry noticed a historical stone ground in front of Cafe 34 during preparation efforts of the project in the region, Ataoğlu said that the historical value of the area would be glassed and included in the project.
Also referring to the discovery of a small part of rails found during the extensive efforts to determine the boundaries of the original flooring last Friday, Ataoğlu said that the part of rails was believed to belong to the British era also seen in locomotive drawings.

“The discovered rails will be covered with glass and exhibited”
Explaining that a 1.5 meter deep well and a water passage for water drainage were also discovered under the rails while unearthing of the discovered rail system efforts took place, Ataoğlu pointed to the sensitivity of the issue and noted that the Department of Antiquities, archaeologists and technical team were continuously in the area.
Ataoğlu announced that a decision was taken for the newly released area to be illuminated with glass and exhibited for tourists and the tourism sector.
