The Prevention for Narcotics and Smuggling Team stopped a vehicle on Saturday at 11.45 am for routine control and detected drugs following suspicious movements of individuals in the vehicle.
According to a police report, the driver and passenger attempted to escape with a bag following a search by police on the Dr Fazıl Küçük roundabout in Girne. While the 28-year-old driver was caught, the passenger managed to escape.
A substance believed to be a cannabis-type drug weighing approximately 500 grams in ready-to-sale packages was detected in the bag and vehicle following the police search and taken as evidence.
Following a search at the 28-year-old’s residence by the Prevention of Narcotics and Smuggling Teams a cannabis-type drug weighing 200 grams was also detected.
1 kilo 50 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, 100 grams of Synthetic Cannabinoid and 135 Euros, 350 pounds and 956 Dollars considered to be money from the sale of drugs was also found following a search at the home in Lefkoşa of the four individuals believed to have connections with the case.
The individuals in question have been arrested and the suspect, who fled the scene, is being sought.
An investigation is ongoing.
