Kızılyürek “Turkish Cypriots being disregarded from Erasmus+ is unacceptable”

It has been reported that Niyazi Kızılyürek, a member of the European Parliament (EP), has been continuing initiatives for the Turkish Cypriot community to be included in the Erasmus+ program.
According to a statement by Kızılyürek’s office, Niyazi Kızılyürek who attended a meeting with EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel at the Strasbourg Education, Culture, Research, Innovation and Youth Commissioner stated that it is unacceptable to exclude Turkish Cypriots who are citizens of the European Union (EU) from the Erasmus+ program.
Kızılyürek said that the exclusion of Turkish Cypriots from the scope of this program, which aims to spread the EU’s values among young people and students, to cooperate among educational institutions and to embrace everyone, contradicts the aims of the program and also contradicts the council decisions that aim to bring Turkish Cypriots closer to the EU.
It is stated that Commissioner Gabriel stated that they will follow the issue closely and that the cabinet will do its best to achieve positive results in consultation with Kızılyürek.
