Work to begin on fire-damaged Mersinlik – Kantara area

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz shared information on the work plan to be implemented and the principles to be followed in reforestation in the forest area destroyed in the Mersinlik-Kantara fire with non-governmental organizations.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Oğuz, the process of the work to be carried out by the Forestry Department and the work plan to be implemented with the participants were evaluated.

Minister Oğuz noted that as a result of detailed inspections, the fire damaged an area of 1815 hectares. Mature trees in the 194 hectares of this area were thought to have the potential to rejuvenate themselves.

Stating that primarily, 933 hectares of land should be reforested with human intervention, Oğuz said that the remaining 629 hectares of land are degraded and the 59 hectares of land are stony, rocky and agricultural areas are not suitable for afforestation.
