Evkaf Foundation reacted against the demolition of the Dianelleios Technical School

The administration of the Cyprus Evkaf Foundation stated that the demolition of the ‘Dianelleios Technical School’ in South Cyprus violated international law adding that they would be waging a struggle against the decision in every field.

In a written statement the General Director of the Evkaf Foundation Ibrahim Benter referred to the news in the press yesterday in South Cyprus regarding the demolition of the partly ruined ‘Dianelleios Technical School’ in Larnaca belonging to Evkaf. Benter said that the land in question belongs to the Evkaf Foundation and stated that a new construction cannot take place.

Benter said that South Cyprus has acted against the international cultural inheritance law and has completely demolished the Evkaf property. Instead of calling on the Cultural Inheritance Committee or the UNDP for permission to restore the ruined section of the property belonging to the Evkaf Foundation they have infringed on the right of direct property and have completely demolished the building which is also against the Evkaf and Ahkamül Evkaf Foundation Law and international law, Benter said.
“The Greek Cypriot administration, since 1974 has been unlawfully using thousands of buildings and lands belonging to Evkaf,” he said.
