“One of the main reasons for the continuation of the Cyprus problem is resolution 186”

TC leader Ersin Tatar reaffirmed the Cyprus Turkish side’s commitment to a fair, permanent and sustainable agreement under the negotiations process in Cyprus. “The sovereign equality and equal international status of the two existing sides must be accepted for this to be realized,” he said.
“The solution proposal in Geneva is the beginning of a new era”
Reminding that he had presented the Cyprus Turkish sides solution proposal at the informal 5 plus UN meeting held in Geneva upon an invitation of the UN Secretary-General, Tatar said “This was the beginning of a new era. At this point, our expectations from other countries, especially from the UN and the EU; as a requirement of our acquired equality, is that they warn the Cyprus Greek side and convince them to confirm our sovereign equality and equal international status.”
TC leader Ersin Tatar spoke at the ceremony held on the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.
“One of the main reasons for the continuation of the Cyprus problem is resolution 186”
TC leader Ersin Tatar pointed out that the main reason for the ongoing Cyprus problem was the adoption of the unlawful decision of resolution 186 taken by the UN Security Council on March 4, 1964, which transformed the Republic of Cyprus into a Cyprus Greek State as the only legitimate state on the island.
“We have sent collaboration proposals to be forwarded to the Cyprus Greek side”
Stating that he sent “four collaboration proposals” to the UN Secretary-General on 1st July 2022 to be forwarded to the Cyprus Greek administration, Cyprus Turkish leader Tatar stated that he presented two additional proposals on 8th July and listed the proposals as follows:

“*Our first proposal is an extended collaborative proposal on hydrocarbon resources.
*Our second proposal was for interconnecting the island’s electricity grids with Europe via the Republic of Türkiye.
*Our third proposal, for the most effective use of Cyprus’ natural resources solar energy is aimed towards the development of joint projects for renewable energy.
*Our fourth proposal, which is of vital importance, the collaboration on the island’s water reserves and the possibility of the involvement of the water from the Project of the Century”
Tatar stated that in addition to these four important cooperation proposals, the proposals on demining the island and tackling the issue of undocumented migrants were also put forward.
“we have not yet received a response from the Cyprus-Greek side to our collaboration proposals”, Ersin Tatar said.
