North Cyprus exported olive oil to South Cyprus for the first time

Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry (CTCI) announced that olive oil was exported to South Cyprus for the first time under the Green Line Regulation.

In a written statement made by the Chamber, it explained that a victory had been accomplished by the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry following a struggle against injustices against their rights of exportation of products to the South of Cyprus.

Olive oil was sold to the South of Cyprus on Tuesday for the first time. Many tariff barriers prevented the sale of North Cyprus processed food from being exported to South Cyprus despite the Green Line Regulation, the statement said.

The statement added that 120 bottles (750 ml) of olive oil were sent to South Cyprus from the Metehan Crossing point on Tuesday. In addition, it said that 6 products like sweet paste, jam, and carob molasses were also sent to South Cyprus as samples.

This historical step will open the way for other processed products and high-value-added food products to be exported, the Chamber statement read.
