“We are tackling the fire with 11 aircraft”

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz said that the fire has not yet been contained and that aerial and ground efforts are continuing.
“We cannot say that the fire is under control before we extinguish the flames and begin cooling efforts,” Oğuz said.
Oğuz noted that air intervention is continuing with a total of 11 aircraft, 6 fire fighting planes and 5 helicopters.
Support is continuing on the ground with teams from the fire brigade, Civil Defence, Cyprus Security Forces Command (GKK) and locals.
Stating that live fires were detected at some points, Oğuz said that these fires were put out and that cooling efforts were carried out.
Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz said that 16,000 dunams of land have been destroyed so far by the fires.
