Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Yasin Ekrem Serim, who paid a visit to TRNC for some contacts was received by President Ersin Tatar, Head of the Republican Assembly Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Foreign Affairs Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu on Monday.
Serim was accompanied by the new Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu during his contacts.
Afterward, he evaluated his contacts during the press conference held at the Embassy of Turkey in Nicosia.
Speaking at the press conference he announced that the Turkish Embassy will open a consulate in Famagusta next year and added the consular services will start to be given on the 15th of January, 2023.
Stressing that they regard themselves as the owner of a national case where they stand side by side with TRNC, for a settlement to the Cyprus issue the realities on the island should be focused on and considered, Serim said at the press conference.
The road to a permanent and viable solution to the Cyprus issue could be opened by the recognition of sovereign equality and equal international status of Turkish Cypriots’, which are their vested rights, Serim said.
“We have been tirelessly explaining that a settlement on the island without equalizing the status of two people can not come true” he added.
