Tatar “Negotiations will not start without acceptance of sovereign equality”

The Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar stated that an official negotiations process cannot proceed without the acceptance of the sovereign equality of the TRNC.
Tatar spoke to members of the press following the briefing on the Cyprus problem at a closed session of the Parliamentary Assembly.
Explaining that he informed MP’s and held evaluations ahead of his planned visit to New York, TC leader Tatar said that he also responded to questions put forward.
Stating that it would not be possible to start an official negotiation process without the acceptance of the sovereign equality of the TRNC, Tatar said that this official policy was also assessed with Türkiye.
Tatar said that he would be explaining in New York that an agreement in Cyprus could only be possible on the basis of sovereign equality.
“TECHNICAL COMMITTEES SHOULD BE BASED ON TWO STATES”
Referring to different technical committees, Tatar said that as the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people he discussed how the relations between the two peoples would develop on the basis of two states during the official negotiation processes.
Stating that it would not be possible to accept the Greek Cypriot sides’ proposals put forward on Confidence Building Measures (CBM), Tatar said that an example of these were proposals to connect Ercan’s Flight Information Region (FIR) to South Cyprus, and for the extermination of the Flight Information Region (FIR) agreement between Ercan-Ankara, this is not acceptable, Tatar said.
The confidence-building measure put forward on the Gazimağusa Port was also not acceptable; Tatar said that these can only be discussed following a comprehensive solution.
Explaining that they would never accept to return Maraş and its removal of the TRNC territory, Tatar said, “It is not possible for us to move on to a comprehensive meeting without the acceptance of our sovereign equality.”
