A group calling themselves stateless, who held a protest in South Nicosia a while ago, are continuing efforts to publicize the violation of human rights experienced by Turkish Cypriots who cannot obtain an identity card despite having the right to citizenship.
The group met with Andreas Kettis, Head of the European Parliament Cyprus Office.
Discrimination and violations of rights by the Republic of Cyprus were conveyed during the meeting where Kettis was informed about the lawsuits filed, it was emphasized that the ‘stateless children’ were being deprived of their rights such as travel and education and that it was unacceptable for a member state of the European Union to exhibit such an inequality.
Opinions were also exchanged on the mechanisms and legal ways required by EU institutions to deal with this victimization of Turkish Cypriot children who are EU citizens.
