President Tatar receives Turkish National Education Minister and his delegation

President Ersin Tatar received Turkish National Education Mahmut Özer and his delegation who are holding official contacts in the TRNC.

Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, National Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu, and Okan Donangil, undersecretary of President Ersin Tatar, were also present at his meetings at the Presidency.

Turkish National Education Minister Mahmut Özer said his Ministry will do “its utmost” to develop the existing cooperation in the field of education between the two countries.

Recalling National Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu’s recent visit to Türkiye, Turkish Minister Özer said: “Back then, some works have been launched in some fields—pre-school, special needs and vocational education– that we were planning to provide support. Today, we are hoping to finalise these works.”

“We are ready to provide any kind of support so that the TRNC could benefit from Türkiye’s experiences in the field of education”, Minister Özer added.

In his remarks during the meeting, President Ersin Tatar welcomed the visit by Turkish Minister Özer and his delegation, noting that “With such a strong team, your visit to the TRNC sends an important message. Your support is important to take our national education a step forward.”

“It’s one of our most important duties to prepare young generations for the future by strengthening our national education system through the implementation and development of the steps mentioned by the Minister”, President Tatar said, noting that: “The young generation is our future. We wish to raise generations in the best possible way and to strengthen and carry the TRNC forward as a Turkic state in the East Mediterranean.”

Noting that new channels have opened for the Turkish Cypriot people after the observer status of the TRNC in the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), President Tatar expressed his belief that a better education system would allow raising better educated and more qualified generations who could represent the country at the contacts to be established with the world countries.

As part of his contacts with the TRNC, Minister Özer paid a visit to the Lefkosa Special Needs Education Center and presented gifts to the children. He later met with Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

The Turkish Minister is expected to hold a joint press conference with Minister Nazm Çavuşolu and then attend the inauguration ceremony of the TRNC’s first e-Exam Hall.
