Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and newly elected Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met at the residence of Colin Stewart, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Cyprus and UNFICYP Chief of Mission in Cyprus.
The first tete-a-tete meeting of the leaders began at 11.15 am today and was held in an informal format.
Christodoulides and then Ersin Tatar arrived at Stewart’s residence.
The first meeting of the two leaders is being followed by representatives of the Greek Cypriot media, international press organizations, as well as the Turkish Cypriot media.
The Canadian diplomat Stewart had visited Tatar yesterday and Christodoulides the day before, as part of preparations for the informal meeting.
The informal meeting took place before Christodoulides begins his term in office.
