The Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union has kick-started its ‘24 hour protest action for freedom’ in fornt of the parliament building yesterday. Many civil society organisations are supporting the protest action that began on Sunday evening.
The protest launched under the slogan ‘Freedom is greater than you, hands-off!’ is being held against three draft laws restricting fundamental freedom and rights. The struggle was waged via social media with journalists holding up banners at some junctions and roundabouts in Lefkoşa.
Some TV channels and social media platforms that are supporting the 24-hour demonstration of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union are broadcasting live in front of the parliament.
In protest, journalists are watching the plenary session of the general assembly, which is taking place about now, with black bands around their mouths, it has been reported.
