Total amount of drugs seized in 2022 announced

There has been a 37 percent increase in the number of drug seizures in Northern Cyprus last year. As a result of 280 operations carried out within the scope of the fight against drugs, 323 defendants were arrested and legal action has been taken against them.

The Prevention of Narcotics and Smuggling team of the Police General Directorate announced the total amount of drugs seized in 2022.

Accordingly, 112 kg. 631 gr. 22 mg. of cannabis (skunk), 3 kg. 688 gr. 160 mg. of methamphetamine, 2 kg. 933 gr. 840 mg. of opium poppy, 1 kg. 285 gr. 439 mg. of cocaine, 878 gr. 140 mg. of heroin, 604 gr. 87 mg. of synthetic cannabinoids, 251 gr. 776 mg. of MDMA, 66 gr. 851 mg of amphetamine was confiscated.

In addition, 1081.5 pills containing MDMA, 149 pills containing buprenorphine, 9 pills containing amphetamine, and 153 cannabis root plants were detected and confiscated.
