FM “We expect the UN to immediately revert from this wrong practice”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UN Peacekeeping Force to immediately return from the practice of opening an area of the buffer zone at the Baf (Paphos) Gate area under the Yiğitler Bastion in Lefkoşa for the use of civilians. Referring to the news published by the Halkın Sesi newspaper, the statement said: "We expect the UN Peacekeeping Force to immediately revert from this wrong practice and restore the said area in the buffer zone to its status before the Greek Cypriot civil violations" The ministry statement reads as follows: "In a statement following the news item, it was stated that the area was opened to the use of civilians by the UN Peacekeeping Force. However, it is obvious that the area was opened to the use of the Greek Cypriots as Turkish Cypriots do not have access to the said area”. “The UN statement that portrays the aforementioned area as designated for civilian use is a great misfortune as the opening of the region to civilian use has never been on the agenda until today,” the foreign ministry statement said.
