2 arrested for trying to smuggle drugs across the border

Two people were arrested yesterday at the Metehan checkpoint following a police raid under the name “Lock” operation by the Prevention of Narcotics and Smuggling team. A 50-year-old individual attempting to smuggle a substance believed to be cocaine weighing 100 grams across from the South to the North via the Metehan checkpoint in Lefkoşa was detected by police. Following the arrest more drugs were found at the individuals residence. Approximately, 340 grams cannabis-type drug, 16 grams of cocaine, 1 gun (pistol) and 53 bullets were detected and confiscated.
A 42 -year -old individual that was found to have connections with the incident was also arrested. The investigation continues.
