Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman stated that the benefits of the Confidence Building Measures (CBM) could not be ignored as the Turkish Cypriot community were economically experiencing a very difficult period.
Erhürman along with his delegation paid a visit to the Cyprus Turkish Chambers of Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) and the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association (KTİMB). Erhürman was also accompanied by deputies during his visit.
CTP leader Erhürman underlined that Confidence Building Measures will greatly contribute to the Turkish Cypriot community, especially during this economic crisis, adding that this issue cannot be ignored and that even if all the CBM are not accepted they should at least be negotiated.
He said that within the framework of Confidence Building Measures, the opening of the Gazimağusa Port and Ercan Airport for direct trade would be a great contribution and would also relieve the economic problems experienced by the public.
Referring to the Cyprus problem, CTP leader Erhürman said that the only realistic solution for the Cyprus problem was a bi-communal, bi-zonal federal solution under political equality and the CBMs would leverage this solution.
Those who claim to be leading the Turkish Cypriots are avoiding the negotiation of the CBM’s but they will never be able to avoid the truth, Erhürman is cited as saying.
