The leader of the National Unity Party (UBP), Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that the UBP-authorized bodies have given him full authority to work on ending the chaos being experienced in the country and ensuring that the local elections take place.
The Constitutional Court ruled that the law, which foresees the postponement of local elections to November conflicted with the constitution. Despite the decision of the Constitutional Court, the UBP has started to work for the local elections to be held on November 27, by passing the election date again with a decision from the Republics’ Assembly.
UBP EXECUTIVE BOARD AND PARTY ASSEMBLY MEETING
Following the UBP Executive Board and Party Assembly meeting with the ‘local elections on the agenda yesterday, Üstel issued statements to the press saying that speedy work will begin today.
Üstel announced that his priority will be to work to relieve the country from the chaotic environment and then carry out work for elections to be held on November 27th.
Pointing to the utmost importance of the present period, Üstel said that they will work with the opposition parties to overcome the problems being experienced.
Üstel expressed the belief that the country will be relieved of the current situation by the end of the week.
