Two people who shopped from two separate markets in Bostancı yesterday have been reported to have circulated counterfeit banknotes.
According to a police report, two people were detected with four 50 and one 20 counterfeit Euro banknotes with serial number MB666888880 while purchasing goods.
The persons in question were identified and arrested while attempting to cross to South Cyprus from the Yeşilırmak crossing point. Fourteen 50, one 10, and one 5 Euro fake notes, with the same serial number MB666888880 which was detected in the vehicle they were driving were confiscated by police.
A warning has been issued to banks, foreign exchange bureaus, financial establishments, markets and citizens to be cautious while exchanging money with the stated serial number as there is a possibility that the counterfeit money has been circulated beforehand.
The public has been warned to be cautious and report any suspects they deem suspicious to the nearest police station.
