Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu announced that the number of visitors to the Maraş region (Varosha), located within the borders of the Gazimağusa district and which gradually expanded as of October 2020, has reached 1 million.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Ataoğlu stated that the number of visitors to Maraş, which opened gradually after 46 years, is increasing day by day, “Maraş has a positive contribution to TRNC tourism. Visitors, especially tourists coming to the country are visiting Maraş.” Ataoğlu said.
Stating that tourists are coming from all corners of the world to visit Maraş, Ataoğlu said that Greek Cypriots crossing over from border crossings is also among the visitors.
Ataoğlu noted that tourists from Türkiye are recorded the highest of those visiting Maraş, “As a result, when we look at the number of visitors to Maraş today, we can see that we have reached 1 million in this short time, which makes us happy.” he said. Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Minister Ataoğlu noted that they expect the number of visitors into Maraş to reach 1 million 100 thousand by the end of the year.
