Anastasiades ‘International Law is not interpreted according to Erdoğan’

The Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades referred to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s reaction against the EU statement regarding the TRNC’s being an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States, “If Erdogan does not like this statement, it is his problem. The International Law is not interpreted according to Erdogan” Anastasiades is cited as saying.
According to Phileleftheros, Anastasiades said that the EU’s stable and positive attitude under International Law and the UN should be taken as a principle, not Erdogan’s reactions.
According to the news, Anastasiades, in response to Erdogan’s statement that they will continue to strive for the TRNC’s participation in the Organization of Turkic States, said that an attempt was made but ultimately the occupied part of Cyprus can only be accepted as a formation.
Anastasiadis said that their reaction yielded positive results and that the most important issue was the EU’s response.
In another news report, the newspaper wrote that Anastasiades referred to the upcoming meeting with Miroslav Jenca, Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and America at the United Nations Political Affairs Department. Anastasiades will voice all the efforts made on the Cyprus issue since 2017, namely the deadlock in Crans Montana, the efforts made until recently to create the necessary conditions for the resumption of the dialogue, and meetings with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Anastasiades will also reiterate the search for common ground for the determination of a special representative, the paper reports.
