It has been reported that some of the North Cyprus citizens who lost their lives under the wreckage of the İsias Hotel in Adıyaman, following the earthquake in Türkiye, have been brought to North Cyprus.
The bodies of ten citizens, consisting of 7 students, 2 teachers, and 1 parent, which arrived at Ercan Airport, from Adıyaman early this morning at 3.30 am were greeted by family, friends, and loved ones.
A state funeral is being organized for the 10 bodies that were found following search and rescue efforts.
There were tearful and emotional moments during the greeting of the bodies at Ercan Airport, also attended by President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, opposition party CTP leader Tufan Erhürman, ministers, deputies, military and other officials.
Alongside the bodies, some of the crew from the search and rescue team, families, and some people from the earthquake zone arrived on the aircraft.
The names of the students, teachers, and parents who lost their lives in the earthquake and were brought back home are as follows:
“İbrahim Yakula (school deputy principal), Pamir Konuklu (teacher), Fahri Arkar, Doruk Akın, Alp Akın, Özgür İçme, Lavin Kalaycı, Elvin Çavdır, Kağan Selim İş (students), Duygu Balsoy Kalaycı (parent).
Gazimağusa Turk Maarif College girls and boys sports teams, who went to Adıyaman to participate in the championship, were left under the rubble as a result of the collapse of the Isias Hotel, where they were staying, following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred Sunday, February 6th.
Uninterrupted ongoing efforts to reach those under the rubble at the İsias Hotel are continuing.
